Who Can Benefit from the Yaktrax Walk Grips?

If you'd like to achieve a little extra stability on your winter walks, Yaktrax Walk Grips are perfect for you. Ideal candidates for this product include:

  • Commuters
  • Walkers
  • Elderly
  • Hikers
  • Skiiers

Is It Easy to Walk with Yaktrax?

There'll be no risk of shoe spikes getting stuck in the ice with your Yaktrax Walks. Instead of spikes, they rely entirely on poly elastomer webbing and steel coils, which maximise friction with the floor for a more secure grip.

How Do I Put Yaktrax On?

The Yaktrax Walks are very easy to put on, and should only take a moment of your time. Simply place one leg over the other, and apply the grip starting from the front of your shoe, and pulling it back over your heel. Once you've done this for both feet, you'll be ready to go!

Is There Anything I Should Check Before Using Yaktrax?

Always check you Yaktrax are on correctly before you set off. Make extra sure that:

  1. The word 'heel' or 'toe on your Yaktrax are pressed against your shoe (they should not be visible or the device is inside out).
  2. The coils sit flat against the soles of your shoes and do not go past its edge.
  3. The outer band rests against the outer edge of your footprint (this should not be caught on the sole).
  4. There is a circular knob visible on the Yaktrax webbing covering your sole.

Which Size Is Right for Me?

The Yaktrax Walks are available in four different sizes. To find the perfect fit for your shoes measure the circumference of your shoe's footprints. Shoe sizing can also give you an indication as to which Yaktrax size will suit you best, but always take circumference into consideration first as the walking aids will fit on your shoes' exteriors.

Will Yaktrax Fit My Shoes?

The Yaktrax Walks are flexible enough to fit over all kinds of shoes, including anything from work boots to trainers. To make sure they'll remain securely on your desired footwear, measure the sole circumference of the shoe in question before making your purchase, as described in the section above.

Can I Walk On Pavement With the Yaktrax?

The Yaktrax should not be worn on indoors or on surfaces that are not covered by snow or ice, including pavement, gravel or ground that has been salted and cleaned of snow. Instead, always try to remove them before stepping onto these types of terrain.

Do Yaktrax Eliminate the Risk of Ice?

Yaktrax can make it easier to walk and run on snow or ice, but they do not eliminate all the risks associated with such terrains. It is still possible to slip, fall or hurt yourself in these conditions, so you should always exercise great caution, even when you are wearing your Yaktrax.

How Heavy Are the Yaktrax Walks?

The Yaktrax Pros are very light and can be carried without trouble, so can be taken off and put on again whenever necessary. Depending on your chosen size, each pair will weigh between 56.7 - 113.4g (2  - 4oz).

What Are the Yaktrax Walks Made Of?

The Yaktrax are made from materials specially selected to provide durability while remaining lightweight. They consist of the following:

  • Coils - 1.2mm Steel (70% recycled material)
  • Webbing - Poly Elastomer Blend

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit

Using Your Shoe Size

For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.

Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.

Measuring Your Current Insoles

While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.

To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
  2. Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
  3. Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results

Where Can I Find the Dimensions?

The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.

What If There Are No Dimensions Listed?

Trimming Your Insoles to Fit

To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
  2. Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
  3. Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
  4. Carefully cut along the traced line
  5. Your insoles should now fit your shoes better

Trace the outline of your existing insoles
Carefully trace the outline of your insole

Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.

If you would like a more detailed guide to trimming your insoles, please read our full guide on How to Trim Your Insoles.
