XT Composite Ice Semi-Rigid Foot Orthotic Blank (2.0mm)

Designed for use in the manufacture of orthoses, the XT Composite Ice Semi-Rigid Foot Orthotic Blank (2.0mm) is made from a tough yet lightweight combination of carbon fibre and polypropylene with a semi-rigid 2.0mm thickness. It is ideal for combining with other materials to build a custom orthotic or surgical shoe for a patient who requires a moulded FFO and can be simply remoulded by re-heating, making it ideal for inexperienced orthotists.

What's Included?

  • 1 x Individual Orthosis Blank

As patients may require an FFO for just one foot, this item includes one FFO blank only.

Who Can Use the Carbon Fibre Orthotic Blank?

The Semi-Rigid Foot Orthotic Blank is designed specifically for use by podiatrists and healthcare professionals when building a custom functional foot orthosis. The FFO blank can be combined with other materials to offer the patient a custom FFO or insole that provides them with the joint realignment and stability that they need.

What's the Benefit of a Carbon Fibre Blank?

The XT Foot Orthosis Blank is manufactured from carbon fibre and polypropylene for a strong yet lightweight orthotic. Unlike the heavy steel sole plates used in traditional surgical shoes, the carbon composite can be reheated and remoulded as required, and it will not creep or bottom out.

What Are the Advantages of XT Composite Orthotic Blanks?

Thanks to their rigid construction, XT composite blanks are ideal for use in the manufacture of deep heel cups that offer firm directional support. XT orthotic blanks can also be easily re-heated and re-moulded, saving you money by making it easy to fix any mistakes made during the moulding process.

Which Thickness of XT Composite Blank Do I Need?

The XT Composite Blank is provided here with a thickness of 2.0mm. A selection of other thicknesses are also available, which may be more suitable to the needs of your patient; these can be viewed via the links below:

Which Sizes Are Available?

To ensure that your patient can receive optimal comfort and support from their orthotics, the carbon fibre foot plates are available in a selection of sizes. Your required size(s) can be selected from the drop-down menu at the top of the page; please see below for more information about available options.

Size Dimensions (mm)
Small 89 x 191mm
Medium 102 x 203mm
Large 127 x 229mm

What Other Versions Are Available?

The XT Composite Semi-Rigid Blank is provided here with a blue ice pattern. For a more discreet design, it is also available with a silver dot pattern.

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit

Using Your Shoe Size

For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.

Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.

Measuring Your Current Insoles

While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.

To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
  2. Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
  3. Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results

Where Can I Find the Dimensions?

The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.

What If There Are No Dimensions Listed?

Trimming Your Insoles to Fit

To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
  2. Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
  3. Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
  4. Carefully cut along the traced line
  5. Your insoles should now fit your shoes better

Trace the outline of your existing insoles
Carefully trace the outline of your insole

Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.

If you would like a more detailed guide to trimming your insoles, please read our full guide on How to Trim Your Insoles.
