How Does the Boxia Plus Drop Foot AFO Brace Work?

The Boxia Plus Brace helps to elevate the front of the foot, making clearance easier and more seamless during the swing phase of your gait. For those with reduced mobility, this makes walking much easier and reduces the risk of tripping over everyday obstacles like carpets, pavements and any uneven surfaces. The Boxia Plus works with your natural gait pattern by allowing standard ankle movement when landing on your foot.

The Boxia Plus Ankle Brace consists of two separate components: a strap that comfortably wraps around your foot above the ankle and a non-slip hook that is secured between your shoe's tongue and laces. These sections are connected by an elastic strap which provides a customised adjustment level of dorsiflexion (foot-lift). The ankle strap has gel padding for increased comfort and support around the Achilles.

The Boxia Plus is the upgraded version of the Boxia Drop Foot AFO Brace. This new version features more contoured padding for an even more comfortable fit, perfect for sustained, all-day use. Sizing of the Boxia Plus Splint 

The Boxia Plus Splint is available in three sizes that should suit most users. To find your ideal fit, please measure the ankle circumference just above the ankle bone, then consult the table below:

How Do I Put On the Boxia Plus?

The Boxia Plus includes detailed instructions to help you get the most benefit from it, but below is a simple application guide:

1. Place the gel pad of the brace above the back of your ankle
2. Fasten it around your leg and pull the straps securely 
3. Make sure the traction ring is sticking out through the gap in the brace
4. Using S-Shaped hooks, secure the traction band to your laces 
5. Lead both ends of the traction band from your laces, through the tension ring
6. Fasten them around the Boxia Plus Brace and you're ready to go

The Boxia Plus is specially designed so that it can be fit with one hand. Not only is this convenient, but also hugely beneficial for those with limited mobility. The Boxia Plus helps with patient independence and autonomy. 

What Is the Difference Between the Plus and Standard Models?

The Boxia Plus AFO Foot Brace is an upgraded version of the standard Boxia AFO. They key difference between these models is that the plus can be put on with one hand, and features some additional padding.

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit

Using Your Shoe Size

For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.

Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.

Measuring Your Current Insoles

While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.

To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:

1. Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
2. Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
3. Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results

Where Can I Find the Dimensions?

The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.

Trimming Your Insoles to Fit

To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:

1. Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
2. Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
3. Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
4. Carefully cut along the traced line
5. Your insoles should now fit your shoes better

Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.
